  • Count the coins - This problem type displays a total value and several coin types. The user is required to write the number of coins for each type. At least two coins must be selected when selecting this problem type. Also, when creating this type, several options are automatically disabled since they do not pertain to this problem type.

Coins

Select one or more coins to include in the money worksheets. The Count the coin worksheets require at least two coins be selected.

Difficulty

  • Easy - The easy worksheet has the least amount of coins for each problem. Because there are fewer coins in each problem that take up less space, these worksheets have two columns of money problems.
  • Medium - The medium worksheet creates problems with more coins than easy, but less than hard. Because there are fewer coins in each problem that take up less space, these worksheets have two columns of money problems.
  • Hard - The hard worksheet has a large number of coins in each problem and displays the problems in a single column.
  • Expert - The expert worksheet has the largest number of coins in each problem and displays the problems in a single column. Because of the large number of coins, you may need to adjust your worksheet to print in landscape mode; see the help on Jumbo size for additional information.
Note: Even though some worksheets may normally display problems in several columns, if Jumbo size is enabled, only a single column is used since the coins require additional display space. In addition, Count the coin problems always display in a single column.

Options

  • Name/date/score - By enabling this option, each fact sheet will automatically have a page header which will include a space for name, date, and score. The header is not included on answer sheets.
  • Number problems 1... - By selecting this option, all money problems will be numbered from 1 to the highest number.
  • Natural coins - This option allows you to use natural (i.e. realistic) looking money in your problems. If this option is not enabled, black and white line-art is used to display coins.
  • Order coins - Enable this option to display the coins from the largest value (half dollar) to the smallest value (penny).
  • Show math symbols (+, =) - Enable this option to include the plus (+) and equal (=) symbols between coins.
  • Show both heads/tails - Enable this option to randomly display either the head's or tail's side of a coin. By default, only heads is displayed.
  • Hide value labels - Many of the money problems display a label under the coins to have the user fill in the coin's value. You can enable this option to hide (i.e. remove) that coin value label. If the value labels are hidden, the user only needs to answer a single part of each problem.
  • Jumbo size - This option allows you to increase the display size of the money worksheet. The number of problems and display columns generated depends on the size. For example, Jumbo worksheets always have one column. Depending on the size, you may need to adjust your worksheets to print in landscape mode in order to avoid the right-hand portion of the problems from being cut off by your printer.

Generate!

The Generate! button allows you to generate your money worksheet. Once you have entered the input data and selected any options, you may select one of two different Generate! choices:
  • Generate problems - This choice will generate and display your money worksheets (without answers). Each worksheet will be displayed in a new browser window. Once displayed, you can review and/or print your worksheet.
  • Generate answers - This choice will display your money worksheets (with answers). Each worksheet will be displayed in a new browser window. Once displayed, you can review and/or print your answer worksheet.

Re-Shuffle

For each set of options you select on the build page, you will get the same problems each time you click the Generate! button. If you are not satisfied with the problems generated for you, then you can click the Re-Shuffle button. Once you click Re-Shuffle, you can re-click the Generate! button to generate a new set of problems. There is no limit to the number of times you can re-shuffle your problems.
